About
I'm specialized in the archaeology of Hellenistic Central Asia, and excavate in Old Nisa, Turkmenistan, since 2001.
I also deal with Scythian and Thracian archaeology: in general, I'm interested in every form of interaction between Greek and Iranian cultures.
That's why for many years I studied rhytons and drinking horns, investigating mutual influences of the inventories at both morphological and ideological levels.
I recently won a 2 years' Shelby White & Leon Levy Grant for the publication of the ivory furnitures from Old Nisa.
Since few years I investigate traditional marking systems of the Iranian peoples (nishan, tamgas), and I am member of the Signum society, active in this field of studies.
I am also interested in the archaeology of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf trade routes, especially as regards pre-islamic age.
