About

My main scientific interest regards the social causes and environmental consequences of human behavior. From this starting point, my activities have developed in two parallel directions. The first one regards environmental sustainability issues, including the development of institutions for environmental management and common-pool resource governing schemes. The second one focuses on cooperation and collective action: two topics linked with sustainability due to the strong social dilemma character of environmental resource management.

I am especially fascinated in two research approaches:
(i) the use of experimental methods in the study of social mechanisms, with a specific reference to resource dilemma situations;
(ii) the application of agent-based modeling (often known as individual-based modeling in ecology) to analyze social and social-ecological system.
These two approaches can be used in isolation or better, combined to reach a better understanding of the problem under consideration.

In a nutshell, my main research interests are:
• environmental sustainability
• common-pool resource management
• social-ecological systems
• collective action problems
• social mechanisms
• evolution of altruistic and cooperative behaviors
